George Soros; The Eminent Philanthropist

George Soros is a prominent American-Hungarian investor and philanthropist. He is currently situated in Katonah, New York. Soros is known to be among the best investment advisors globally. George Soros is a vocal supporter of refugees and ardently promotes the implementation of moral justice in the society.

In 1947, the Soros family moved from their home in Budapest, Hungary to Britain. George Soros worked tirelessly to put himself through a course in Economics by working as a night railway porter and a waiter. His efforts paid off, and he received his B.A degree in Economics. George advanced his education by pursuing an MBA in Philosophy. He was then transferred to New York where George Soros worked as a broker on Wall Street. He began Double Eagle, his first hedge fund for an investment bank, Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder Inc. George Soros’ success as a hedge fund manager has enabled him to pursue his desire to establish societies that are more accountable, democratic, and transparent in authoritarian societies. This is what he refers to as open societies.

In the late 1980s, he significantly impacted the change in communism to capitalism that took place in Eastern Europe. This was achieved through his facilitation of cultural exchanges between Eastern and Western Europe, ultimately helping the soviet society to open itself to the world.

George Soros is known as a supporter of American progressive and liberal causes and gives his donations through the OSF. He has offered campaign contributions to well-known politicians such as Barrack Obama, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton. He has also supported the Democratic National Committee Services Corporation and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, among others.
